STEP 1
Please remove the front panel of the hot water system to access the control valve.

STEP 2
With the panel out of the way, you can see the gas control valve like the picture above. The dial will usually be set between 1 & 7.

STEP 3
Turn the dial around to the picture of the spark as shown above.

STEP 4
Press and hold the dial down and simultaneously press the piezo igniter.

If the pilot flame lights, keep holding the dial down for another 30 seconds before releasing it. If the pilot flame goes out each time you repeat this procedure then you have a fault that needs attention by a gasfitter.
If your pilot flame stays lit when you release the dial, turn the dial to 4 or 5 and listen for the sound of the main burner igniting. When you’ve heard the main burner light up and stay lit, replace the access cover and you’re done! It may take up to two hours for your hot water to reach a hot temperature, This is normal as all the water in the tank needs to be heated.

IS THERE GAS TO THE PROPERTY?
This can be checked by using another gas item in the house.

IF THE ANSWER IS YES
Please follow the steps above for a storage tank style unit.

IF THE ANSWER IS NO
Please check that you or the resident has set up a gas account / paid their gas bill. It’s common for a gas company to turn off their gas if an account is overdue.

If the pilot flame on your gas storage hot water system needs relighting, the instructions above show you how. These instructions will work for most gas storage hot water systems.
