WATER LEAKS & BURST PIPES
It is very common to have a water leak and you might not notice it until your water bill arrives and it’s for an excessive amount.
There is a simple check that can be done to see if you have a leak. Please follow the below steps to find out:
- Ensure all tapware, washing machines and toilets are not in use while the test is being completed. This may result in a false reading if they are used during the test.
- Locate your water meter, this can usually be found on either side of the property and 1 meter in from your boundary. It can sometimes be buried or above the ground.
- If you have trouble finding the water meter call Water Corporation on 13 13 75 they will let you know where to look at no charge.
- Once you have found the water meter please turn it off at the tap.
- Take a photo of your water meter numbers then wait 10 minutes. Check your photo against the water meter numbers once the test is complete.
- Turn the water back on and compare the numbers on the meter to the ones in the photos.
- If the numbers have changed there is a high chance you have a water leak. The number on the right is litres, if this moves one number that = 1 litre.
If your water meter has a dial as well this is a further break down of the far right number meaning if it moves two points this means 200 millilitres of water.
To check again for ease of mind please repeat and see if you get the same results.
